Hi everyone! I’m Will, one of the designers here at Light My Bricks. As a passionate fan of all things horticultural and arboreal (despite my less-than-stellar record with real plants), I couldn’t resist the chance to bring the LEGO® Japanese Maple Bonsai Tree #10348 to life.
Lighting Inspiration
The LEGO® Japanese Maple Bonsai Tree #10348 has been thoughtfully lit using the same design principles applied to real-world tree lighting. Four Astro Large Warm White Spotlights are positioned at each corner of the pot, casting light directly upwards to beautifully highlight the tree’s branches and foliage. These lights not only enhance the structure of the build but also create a soft, organic glow that filters through the canopy, projecting a captivating pattern of shadows on the ceiling above.
DIY Spotlight Assembly
Each spotlight is assembled using a combination of:
- 1x1 round plates
- A 1x1 round plate with bar handle
- A 1x1 tile with modified O-clip
These components are all included in the Warm White Spotlight Pack, the essential DIY kit for transforming your bonsai into a miniature botanical light installation.
At the core of each fixture is our Large Warm White Astro Light, specifically chosen for its warm hue that contrasts elegantly with the vibrant tones of the Japanese Red Maple leaves.
Clean Power Setup
All spotlights are discreetly wired to a Dock 6, which is neatly hidden beneath the pot to maintain a clean, unobtrusive look. The Dock 6 acts as the central power hub, connecting to a 60cm Flux Belt—a flexible USB power cable included in the bundle.
To power your tranquil display, simply plug it into a wall outlet, power bank, or battery pack. Then sit back and enjoy a glowing showcase of floral design and illumination.

For this build, I chose a sleek and minimalist spotlight design using:
- 1x1 round plate with open stud
- 1x1 tile with modified O-clip
- 1x1 round plate with bar handle
This combination results in a clean, compact fixture that not only looks great but also allows for subtle directionality when positioning your lights.
Assembly Walkthrough

Start with the Astro Large Light – Warm White 30cm.
Gently remove the label tag and thread the plug end through the open stud of the 1x1 round plate. -
Orient the light.
Adjust the LED so it faces upward once inserted into the brick, ensuring it delivers a direct glow toward the bonsai canopy. -
Add structure.
Attach the 1x1 tile with a modified O-clip to the base, followed by the 1x1 round plate with bar handle. This creates a neat pivot point to angle the spotlight as needed. -
Repeat.
Follow this process four times to assemble a full spotlight set, positioning them around the base of the bonsai to deliver soft, even lighting from every angle.
