From the Designer
I’m Will, a designer at Light My Bricks, and I’ve had the privilege of lighting some of the most iconic Transformers, including Bumblebee. So, when LEGO® announced Soundwave, I couldn’t wait to build and light up this legendary Decepticon.
This version is based on the original G1 series, so I took inspiration directly from the animated show, adding authentic lighting touches that make this model feel true to the source material. With a few extra flourishes, Soundwave transforms into a striking display piece that will stand out in any collection.
Lighting Inspiration
I began by lighting the features fans will instantly recognise from the G1 series—the shoulder cannon and handheld blaster. In the show, these weapons emit a vivid pink glow, so I replicated that with a pack of four Large Astro Pink Lights. One is mounted in the handheld blaster, while two illuminate the shoulder cannon. The final pink light sits inside Soundwave’s chest, casting a subtle glow that makes the Decepticon emblem pop.
From there, I moved to the details. A pack of four Cool White Regular Lights adds both functionality and atmosphere. One sits behind the faceplate, giving Soundwave his iconic eye glow—whether you choose the red look from the cartoon or the yellow from the original toy. Another cool white light highlights the play control button on his chest, a nod to his “sound activation” in the series.
The last two Cool White Regular Lights are mounted above the legs, pointing down to illuminate the entire figure. These help capture every detail, from the weapons to the cassette bay, turning Soundwave into a centrepiece worthy of display. All the lights connect neatly to a 9 Dock mounted on his backpack, keeping cables hidden and the design clean.
Feature Highlights
Customisable Eye Glow
One of the most satisfying details is the cool white face light. It’s positioned so that you can still swap out Soundwave’s LEGO® eye pieces—switching from the bold red glow of the animated series to the yellow from the original toy—without needing to adjust the lighting. This small design choice keeps the light functional while allowing full customisation for display.
