From the Designer

Hi, I’m Megan, one of the designers here at Light My Bricks. As a lifelong Disney fan, I thought it was awesome to give this classic LEGO® set a proper lighting upgrade. Lighting this model with our DIY components for LEGO® sets felt like the perfect way to honour such a special set. With its vintage charm and celebration of Disney’s 100th anniversary, this camera deserved a little extra magic—and the results truly capture the spirit of Disney storytelling.

Lighting Inspiration

The Walt Disney Tribute Camera is already a beautiful display piece, filled with nostalgic details and clever nods to the history of animation. My goal was to enhance that vintage cinematic feel, making the model glow as if it were part of a working film set.

Starting with the centrepiece of the build, a Large Cool White Astro Light is hidden inside the main lens. When switched on, it glows through the glass, perfectly mimicking the beam of a vintage movie projector and immediately adding theatrical magic to the set.

Up top, the Disney 100 emblem is brought to life with two cool white spotlights. Positioned to shine directly on the “100,” the light reflects against the white LEGO® tiles, making the emblem appear to glow. It’s a subtle but powerful effect that ensures the anniversary logo stands out.

Down below, I installed two warm white spotlights beneath the stand legs of the camera. These cast a gentle, upward glow that provides a beautiful contrast to the cool lights above—balancing the entire build with warmth and depth.

Finally, the multiplane camera on the minifigure stand is given its own special touch. A hidden Large Cool White Astro Light shines through the three printed screens, illuminating the layers of artwork and recreating the very technique that revolutionized Disney animation. It’s a fitting tribute to one of the most iconic tools in cinematic history.

Feature Highlights

Illuminated Multiplane Camera

One of my favourite parts of this build is the multiplane camera on the minifigure stand. To bring it to life, a Large Cool White Astro Light is hidden inside the structure, shining through the three printed screens. This creates depth and dimension, illuminating each layer of artwork and making the scene feel almost animated.

It’s a clever nod to Disney’s groundbreaking multiplane technique, which added depth and realism to classics like Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and Bambi. With the light shining through, the minifigure stand becomes more than just an accessory—it becomes a miniature tribute to one of Disney’s greatest innovations in storytelling.

Projector Lens Glow

Another highlight of this design has to be the glowing projector lens. By mounting a Large Cool White Astro Light inside the camera’s lens, the build suddenly feels alive, as though it’s ready to project a classic Disney short right onto your wall. This single feature instantly transforms the model into a working piece of cinematic history, tying together the entire display with a theatrical presence that Disney fans will immediately recognize and love.
