From the Designer
Hi, I’m Megan, one of the designers here at Light My Bricks. I had a lot of fun lighting the LEGO® Nike Dunk because it’s so different from any set I’ve worked on before. This project was all about enhancing the model as a display piece, making it look more striking and giving it a real sense of presence. I think the results came out really cool—especially since the cool white lighting works beautifully against the white, blue, and green LEGO® pieces.
Lighting Inspiration
When approaching the LEGO® Nike Dunk, my goal was to elevate it from a playful sneaker build into a bold display centerpiece. The set already has strong lines and vibrant colours, so the lighting needed to highlight those features while maintaining the clean, modern feel.
To start, I added four Cool White spotlights around the set. Three are placed at the front, casting bright highlights across the trainer and illuminating the bold brick-built “DUNK” sign. A fourth sits at the back, angled so that its glow shines through the inside of the “U” in DUNK. This balances the light coverage across the whole sign and ensures the upper sections don’t disappear into shadow.
Next, I turned my attention to the iconic Nike Swoosh. To really make this stand out, I installed three Cool White Astro Lights behind the brick-built tick, giving it a sleek, backlit glow. It’s simple, but it makes the logo pop — instantly eye-catching and one of my favourite parts of the design.
Finally, I added another Cool White Astro Light inside the sneaker itself. This lights up the shoe’s interior, while also hitting the suspended basketball above the model, tying the whole build together.
The end result is a model that feels sharp, modern, and stylish, just like the real Nike Dunk.
Feature Highlights
The Backlit Swoosh
The glowing Nike Swoosh is the true centerpiece of this lighting design. With three Cool White Astro Lights mounted behind it, the tick transforms into a bold, illuminated focal point of the entire shoe.
The lights are mounted using 1x1 trans-clear open stud plates, which lift the swoosh slightly off the shoe’s surface. This not only hides the components neatly but also allows the light to spread evenly underneath, creating a smooth, striking glow that makes the logo pop.
This effect works perfectly with the clean lines and colours of the LEGO® Nike Dunk, and it gives the model the same sense of cool branding that makes the real sneaker so iconic.
