From the Designer

I'm Megan, part of the design team here at Light My Bricks. When I first got my hands on the LEGO® Icons Sherlock Holmes: Book Nook, I knew it offered something a little different. With its layered architecture and moody Victorian charm, this set provided a great opportunity to explore lighting in a more dramatic and immersive way. It was exciting to enhance the storytelling with just a few well-placed lights, turning an already detailed build into a standout display piece perfect for any shelf or study.

Lighting Inspiration

For this build, we envisioned a gloomy London night in the late 1800s—fog in the air, gas lamps casting yellow glows, and shadows deepening around every corner. Baker Street has been brought to life using four Astro Regular Yellow lights in each of the street lamps, giving the scene that classic dim-lit atmosphere, perfect for a mystery to unfold.
Inside, the Elementary Bookshop features Astro Regular Warm White lights on both levels, highlighting the charming interior details without overpowering the darker tones of the exterior. Just down the way at 221B Baker Street, another Warm White Astro light bathes Holmes and Watson’s apartment in a soft, studious glow, perfect for late-night sleuthing.

And finally, one of the most intriguing parts of the set—Professor Moriarty’s hidden elevator—opens to reveal its own Astro Regular Warm White light. This moment of reveal feels dramatic and theatrical, casting light onto the foggy street as the villain makes his entrance.

Feature Highlights:

Victorian Street Lamps

The four street lamps lining Baker Street are a defining feature of the LEGO® Sherlock Holmes Book Nook—and lighting them was key to capturing the set’s moody, period-accurate vibe. Each lamp is fitted with an Astro Regular Yellow light, which sits neatly inside the translucent yellow bricks, casting a soft, gaslight-style glow.

What makes this feature especially satisfying is that no modifications were needed—the lights are held securely using the original LEGO® parts in the lamp assembly. We didn’t add or remove any structural elements, preserving the integrity of the design. The ultra-thin cables from each light slot discreetly between the LEGO® bricks and run to the back of the set. The result is a clean, immersive finish where the wiring remains completely hidden, allowing the focus to stay on the storytelling and atmosphere of Baker Street.

Secret Elevator Reveal

One of the standout features of this set is Professor Moriarty’s secret elevator—and we made sure the lighting didn’t interfere with its clever mechanics. A single Astro Regular Warm White light has been installed inside the elevator shaft, perfectly positioned to light up as the doors open. The set retains its full playability—no modifications were made to the moving parts—so the elevator operates just as intended, only now with an added touch of theatrical drama as the light reveals the hidden villain.
