Hi all! My name is Will, and I’m a product designer here at Light My Bricks. When LEGO® announced the Dinosaur Fossils set and I saw that it was the Tyrannosaurus rex, I knew I had to light this one up! The T. rex is such an iconic skeleton, but I also knew there wouldn’t be enough in the LEGO® build to justify a full-blown light kit. That’s exactly where our DIY Bundles come in—the perfect way to turn this model into a dramatic, museum-style exhibit. With the help of our spotlights, the tyrant lizard king now has the illuminated pedestal it truly deserves.
Lighting Inspiration
The goal with this design was clear from the start: to make the T. rex look exactly how you’d expect to see it displayed in a real museum. That meant dramatic spotlighting from below, casting light across the fossilized skeleton and creating shadows that highlight its scale and power.
To achieve this, I used two Spotlight DIY Packs, each equipped with Large Warm White Astro Lights. In total, that gave me eight individual spotlights to position around the base of the T. rex. Carefully angled, they light up every detail of the fossil, as well as the included plaque and minifigures.
All eight lights are neatly wired into two Dock 6s, which I mounted behind the sign for a clean and tidy setup. Once powered on, the result is striking: the T. rex skeleton takes on the grandeur of a museum centerpiece, glowing under dramatic illumination that brings this LEGO® set to life.
Feature Highlights
Fully Adjustable Spotlights
The spotlights are the true star of this lighting design, and the best part is that they’re simple to assemble with everything you need included in the Spotlight Pack.
Each spotlight begins with a Warm White Astro Light, threaded through a 1x1 Round Plate with open stud so the LED sits perfectly inside. That plate then attaches to a 1x1 Plate Modified with Bar Handle, which connects to a LEGO® Skeleton Arm (Horizontal Grip). Finally, another Plate Modified with Bar Handle clicks onto the bottom of the skeleton arm to complete the build.
This clever little assembly is repeated eight times to create the full spotlight ring around the display. Not only do they look neat and professional, but they’re also fully adjustable—pivotable and rotatable—so you can angle the lights exactly where you want them. It’s a flexible setup that lets you achieve the perfect museum-style presentation.
